    Hi all,

I recently purchased and have been learning my way around my new Workbee and have run into a problem that I can't figure out.

I disassembled the gantry in order to fortify the z-axis, as seen in the photos at the bottom of this thread: workbee deflection Z axis

I got everything put back together and now when I power things up, I hear the power go to the motors that would normally lock them up (one 'clunk'), but they don't lock. Every 3 seconds or so and the green lights on the TB6600's blink and you hear the clunk noise as power goes to the motors and it just keeps pulsing but won't lock the motors like normal. I can turn them by hand. When the pulses hit, the motor spindle will jerk to what I'm guessing is the next closest step, but then it can still be turned by hand.

I've done all the troubleshooting I can figure out to do, including disconnecting the motion controller from all the stepper drivers (to eliminate the controller as cause). Mach 3 doesn't indicate any issues when I do this until I hit a key to jog (which I know it can't because the controller isn't connected to the stepper drivers/motors) and then it says 'device unavailable'. If I disconnect power to one motor, the others still do it. If I disconnect all the drivers from the motors (to eliminate short in motor wiring or indicate a bad motor), the drivers still blink every 3 seconds. I thought the problem might be the power supply, but it still powers my spindle, which is responsive to Mach3 (on/off and speed control) even though the machine axes aren't. It looks to me as though the problem is the stepper drivers and I know now that the TB6600's have a bad reputation, but I'm puzzled as to why/if all 4 would die at once when they weren't doing anything and weren't powered. I've read about all kinds of other issues with these drivers, but have searched Google and several forums the last 2 days and can't find anything close to this.

I'm sure I'll be replacing the stepper drivers, but at this point I'd like to better understand what is actually wrong and what might have caused it, as I'm dead in the water.

Thanks in advance for any help/advice you guys can offer.

With some further examination and research, it appears that the power supply is, in fact, the issue.

I guess I'll do that first.
