So we are running a LEAD 1010 in a MakerSpace supporting about 150 members. Like always there are about 20 to 30 people who I would call active members (In there a couple 2 or 3 times a week). I would like to develop an active community of CNC enthusiast and have recently offered to start "Training New Users". Here is the rub, I have maybe 100 hours of experience on the machine and about the same using Easel. I started out trying Fusion 360 and found it to be beyond me! We just added the XYZ probe to our set up and we have the INTERFACE CNC Touch Controller with plans to get it in the loop soon. Does anyone know of a training series or a LEAD 1010 orientation series that I can leverage. ? Second question, we have a bit of concern with folks just ignoring the posting and jumping on the CNC without the training/orientation. Anybody implemented access control or CCTV tied to starting the unit? Thanks in advance for any insights!
Thanks Peter! I had not seen Matt's video, quite helpful and gave me a few ideas. One thing seem off base. He suggested setting the Dewalt at 3.5 for a speed rating but then stated that 12,000 rpm is a good target speed for softwoods. So based on the Dewalt speed chart 1 is 16,000 and 2 is 18,200. So that would seem like we would want something in the 1 to 1.5 ? Does that sound right?
Thanks Alex, I had not considered that. Is it a physical key or something that could be added to a token key? A physical key might be hard to manage with a large user base.
I think for the sake a "getting started" video going a little higher on the RPM is just a little safer (what if the zeroed wrong etc) but of course, when you work out your own toolpaths, do the calculations or experiments as needed and dial it in
How do the members gain entry to the front door? Or any other pre-existing access system? For example, if you already give them RFID cards to enter the door, you get RFID power switches: High Qualified Energy Saving Power Switch System Rfid Power Switch - Buy Rfid Power Switch,Rfid Energy Saving Power Switch,Energy Rfid Power Switch Product on Alibaba.com
Thanks for the link, that is spot on. We use a small token to access the building. I am pretty sure it is RFID, not sure who makes the system, but I can find out!
