I guess I had better finish up this OneZ and get to printing stuff as I have lots to learn.

Chinese New Years.... I've run into that one before.... And it's a LOOONG New Years too.

The chopping up of the large pieces will make it printable on a regular printer. That's what I was thinking of doing when I make the TrueUP, looks like you are going to save me the work! I was going to modify it to a 300 x 300 build surface, but I see there are 200 x 300 heated build plates available and it's a reasonable compromise, so I was thinking I can just stretch the X axis to accommodate the longer build plate and the Y axis could stay the same. The again, extending the Y axis might be cheaper?!?! Only need longer rails and a longer belt? Hmmmm.....

 

That settles it.... 100mm more Y on the next build! As for the heated bed.... I too will probably be sticking with PLA for most stuff, so perhaps a heated bed can be left for later, if needed. I do know I see a need for more than 8" now and then.

Pity I can't get Aquanet in Canada, except through Amazon.ca, and it's way to costly that way. I'm hoping glue stick or woodworking glue will be good enough. There's always buildtak and those sorts of things I suppose.

As for parties in China.... Ugh... I can't even stay awake until midnight on New Years Eve!

 

On my other laser build I have been quoted around 100usd plus shipping for the 3d printed parts with a 100% infill. Could someone please quote for the printed parts on this build? Many thanks in advance

So, I finally get back to work as I got the bearings I needed (6 weeks from China?!?!) and the darn things are binding (6mm threaded Z rods). Look at build again... doh... I need 4 x 6mm precision washers... not listed in BOM. Considering Canada supposedly went Metric a long time ago, you'd think *any* of the local hardware stores would have Metric fastners... Nope, not only that, but the fastest way to get a set of Metric drill bits was to order a set from the UK via Ebay and this is in a Metric country, in a 3/4 Million pop. City. <groan>

Rather than sit back and wait again, I decided to make some washers... I started with 3/16" washers and super glued them to a piece of 2 x 4, drilled them carefully with a 6.5mm drill in a hand drill and then ground them flat by hand on a diamond hone I have. I have a pen turning mandrel that measures 6.2 mm so I can always stack, clamp and either file them down on my woodworking lathe or sand them down on my belt sander if need be to make them smaller. I do have to say, I'm looking forward to getting this finished as the TrueUP looks like a much cleaner build.

OK, enough feeling sorry for myself, back to work!

I'm just thanking my lucky stars that Keith did all the hard work.... If I had to design something from scratch.... I'd still be sharpening my pencil.

What a nightmare. I can't even imagine using the imperial system. If you get stuck I don't mind sending something at cost to you, something to bear in mind I guess. Rob

 

The only one we have is called Princess Auto. I've been there and again, it's all Imperial. I did have a machine shop supplier back when I was a gunsmith... no issues getting metric stuff there, but alas... they closed down last year. I checked another outfit and they only want company purchase invoices, no street traffic. Even the Bolt Warehouse stops at 4mm, which would have worked, but they have a $5 minimum charge.... so it only pays to go there when you want to stock up .

Around here, bubble gum and bailing wire are considered the correct way to fix farm machinery. Grocery stores price things in KG but sell in Lbs, fuel is sold by the liter, speed limits are Km/h but fuel consumption is still quoted as MPG and of course our Gal is bigger than yours!

Yes, I figured *anything* would work to free up the bearings so my crude washers I made worked just fine. I was going to use a thin hard plastic sheet but the drill kind of tore it up so I figured I'd try making steel ones.

Evening was set aside for something else so I'll continue on Sunday... hopefully, no more delays... I really want to get this printer up and running.

 

Robert, I lived in Norway back in the early 70s and worked in a BLMC (British Leyland Motor Cars for the NA crowd) shop. The nightmare was when South Africa began assembling Austin cars made from UK sub assemblies. The UK sub assemblies, at that time, were put together with Imperial fastners... South Africa was metric, so they used all metric fastners to put the cars together. We needed two complete kits of tools to work on those cars, and at times you needed an intuition of what standard the bolts were. I also quickly figured out where I could use *either* wrench/socket... 13mm or 1/2 was the most common.

Thanks for the offer of shipping an item. UK to Canada post is rather quick for some reason... Usually 5 to 7 days. It's as fast or faster than mail from the USA, depending on what state it's coming from.

Hey Keith, I've decided to build your OneZ i3! Two minor things I noticed while ordering parts:
1. Unless I've missed it, I don't see a the belts for the X and Y Axis in the BOM.
2. On the BOM the quantity of the GT2 20 tooth pulleys (5 and 6mm) is reversed from the quantities on the PDF

Hi, I like the look and ability of the OneZ i3 and will probably build it when I have finished building the Ox cnc. Any rough idea's of costings?, hopefully I don't have to lie to much to the other half.

Oh ok, not too much of a problem but I wiil have to source someone here in the UK to make the parts for me.

 

Look for Printverical's hub on 3d hubs. His prices are the cheapest on there as he's just starting up. My build cost for the trueup glide are £405. Build costs are more in the UK mainly because we don't have openbuilds parts store gonna be worth it though!

Hello! I just wanted to say that I love the design. However, I won't be printing the whole thing. I actually downloaded and modified your extruder so that it is capable of handling a BL Touch. When I've finalized it, I'll be happy to share it with you But thanks for doing the heavy lifting already, it was a breeze to add the support for one into the main body of the extruder.

 

Perhaps Silly Question:
The printed parts are not listed in the BOM? Is there a way to purchase the printed parts? Or do I need too borrow a friend's printer? Maybe I am missing a point or a Chicken and Egg issue? I am still studying while I purchase parts.
