Hi all, I have finally finished my build after having the machine for a long period of time. While Jogging the machine in UGS, I get quite a bit of vibration on the gantry when jogging on the y axis. Once it is moving it runs smooth but will then vibrate when it comes to a stop or when it starts up. The X and Z axis are fine. When I disconnect the motors from belts on the Y axis, I can move the gantry by hand quite easily so I do not believe it is a mechanical issue. I have spent many hours reading online trying to solve this problem but have so far not had any luck. Also I have adjusted the pots on the xPro in 1/8 turns. If I go forward or back just 1/8 from their current position they will either stall or going the other way they will make the motors produce a clicking sound and throw up errors in UGS (current set to high). I have also installed the double belt mod on the X and Y axis. I have also spent a lot of time adjusting the GRBL settings on the xPro. Is there a way to start and stop the motors on the y axis in a smother motion? Sorry if the wording might sound a bit off. This is all very new to me as I have just got the machine running. Just giving this a bump in case anyone has any suggestions to get rid of vibration. At the moment my machine is running okay, but if I cut something small I get a lot of vibration on y-axis movements and it kind of needs to be in contact with the work material to aid it which has an effect on the cut. Things I've considered it might be: - The belts are too tight and they're putting strain on the pulleys and therefore the motor - The router mount is currently too low; or something that could be upgraded to one that makes more surface contact with the router - The eccentric nuts that tighten the delrin wheels aren't tight enough causing some slop between the wheel and x-axis extrusion As I said at the moment is running okay so I'm not something I'm in a rush to trial and error. But if anyone can point me in the direction to get to the bottom of it - which way would that be?
One possible suggestion (assuming its not mechanical in nature) is to play with the Decay switch / jumpers on the xPro, set it to Mixed Decay
Hey! And thanks for the suggestion. I did a little bit of research because I wasn't too sure what that meant if I'm honest. But the xPro v3 is supposedly set to mixed by default so maybe that means it's more likely to be mechanical.
Ahh yes, unfortunately then. Some silicon or dry lube on the leadscrew? (never oil, it degrades the plastic) Nothing loose? Wheels adjusted tight enough? (not free spinning, some friction, see our Youtube channel for how to). Stop collars on leadscrews tight against bearings (no play)?
There's for sure a little bit of play on the wheels to one side. Just waiting for some time to spend on it and I'll check-in with my findings.
I tightened the derlin wheels and that's got rid of most of the vibration in general although I haven't tested it with anything built with a lot of curves, but I'm confident that's sorted. Next order of business is circles. Maybe I'll see you in another thread. =)
