I am new to this kind of... I worked in a machine shop programming CNC mills and lathes for 10 years from 1995 to 2005. This was back before CAM was a thing really, so we literally typed in code line by line. Back then to cut an arc, we used codes G2 and G3, depending on the direction of travel. When I draw in open builds cam, all arcs are done in G1, very short straight lines...very time consuming. Is there a program out there that generates G code for my open builds C beam machine that codes with G2 and G3
Fusion 360 will, as will the various Vectric products (Software - OpenBuilds Part Store). Openbuilds Cam is meant as a "get you started" as simple as possible option. Alex.
Thank you sir, are there any you would suggest? I have a C beam machine, so its hobbies really. I am tied to an 11 x 13 inch work area, so I am limited. Mostly for me it is signs and cutting out letters for signs (at this point in time, I will upgrade later). I have been looking at V carve, but I would like to hear suggestions and peoples impressions before I drop $400 on software. I understand if you cant give an opinion because of you affiliations, but would appreciate any advice you can give to a newbie with a c-Beam
I use Fusion 360 a lot (free for hobby users), Vectric V-carve (not cheap I know). Alex. PS - no affiliations - I'm a volunteer here, not an employee.
There is also the SketchUCam plugin for Sketchup Make, I use it with Sketchup Make 2017 which is the last free version.
I too use SketchUp Make for all my 2d work. The SketchUCam, that David mentioned above (and which he wrote most of it!!! ) is excellent for 2d g-code generating. And, best of all, if you have a question about it you can ask it here on this Forum and you'll get answered fast. I use Fusion360 a lot but only for my 3d printing work.
