Can Openbuilds Control be used for rotary toolpaths. I'm converting from Millrights UGA post processor to Openbuilds Control. First attempt gantry moved along the y-axis rather than rotating the chuck.

CONTROL is just a host - just sends your GCODE along to the controller

You need a CAM (Fusion or Vectric) to create your gcode.

Using v-carve Pro to create the g-code. Post processor is G-CODE WrapY2A(mm)(*.TAP)

I'm not using a Blackbox, just the openbuilds control software.

Why are you using a *.TAP post processor? I very much doubt that it will be compatible with grbl. What controller set up do you have?

    Alex.

Using G-CODE WrapY2A(mm)(*.TAP) with Millright UGS for rotary operations without issue. I'm using the Millright controller for the MEGA V XL, which has a 4th axis 4 pin mike connector that goes from the controller to the rotary. Don't need to plug or unplug anything to go from standard Y-axis to 4th-axis operation as long as I use a the G-CODE WrapY2A(mm)(*.TAP) post processor.

so you have an actual 4th axis that is referenced by the controller as the A axis and NOT swapping plugs to run the rotary off the Y axis, right?

Yes we do. Nothing really difficult about it - try it and shout when you get stuck

I have purchased it and love how easy it is to setup the stl files. I just can't figure out how to get it to use x as the rotary axis and not A or B and if I turn off both it shows as it won't mill the underside.

The BlackBox X32 has proper A-axis support. Thats where we use it, also see post #9 and #10 above (also A axis)

Thanks for the info. Doing a little more research took me to this post Blackbox X32 Rotary 4th Axis Wiring
which you made and got me on the right path and I got it all setup and working.
