I just wanted to thank and congratulate OpenBuilds on the CONTROL software. I had been using the UGS platform but had become frustrated by the difficulty in reading the GUI when run from a high-res screen (Surface Laptop 3). I came across the CONTROL software this week accidentally and have since been thoroughly enjoying using it. The GUI is so well designed, and the functionality equally impressive, including the ability to dynamically adjust feed rates. I have the C-beam machine and I use Fusion 360 for design and post-processing so the CONTROL software now rounds-out an excellent package. I've also cut-out 30 mm of the build plate at the rear and now have a full 305 mm Y-direction travel. I've also added springs and screws on the build plate to allow me to level the plate - similar to a 3D printer. Thanks again!
Thank you for the kind words! Doesn't that affect z moves? Force of cutter moving down compressing springs? Inconsistent cut depths etc Normally one wants as rigid as possible the machine. Then see the Wizards and tools > surfacing wizard in CONTROL to deck off a perfectly level spoilboard
I've only used Foamed PVC so far and it hasn't been an issue, but I'll check out the surfacing wizard and see if that's a better strategy. Thanks for letting me know Peter.
don't plunge, RAMP. Works best on all materials. Thing is that endmills and router bits (a variation of endmill) are not really good at plunging, though they can do it, they are not good at it. Some router bits made for wood cutting do not center cut at all and should never be plunged. Compare a drill with an endmill, drills are really good at plunging (-: and a a very different shape.
Ignorant newbie here, recently purchased a machine, built it and started following along with the software tutorial and right off the bat it's showing "waiting for usb". I've plugged into all my ports and nothing. I'm so lost S.O.S.
Driver is section 4.1, dont skip 4.2 or windows power management will shutdown your USB portd mid-cut at some point. Read the documentation please, it will help you avoid expensive mistakes
Hopefully I am in the right place to post this. I am planning on using the Open builds control and cam software. I am wondering if I am able to stop and resume a project? Some of the projects I am looking to do will take more than 8 hours. I got my laptop set no to power off or sleep since I have it plug in with a power cord so I have no problem leaving it on.
I'm kinda wondering what would be a good dedicated tablet to pair with openbuilds software and cnc? I've been using my laptop but thinking of going for a tablet or i could build a dedicated pc for it to...

is the 2 ram enough? and you are using it only to control the cnc? i was thinking to also have the option to adjust designs on the tablet in case i see something i missed while designing on my pc. 2 ram in that case would'nt be enough i think
yeah was what i was guessing. That openbuilds interface looks nasty but then you dont have the mobility and freedom to adjust your design like you would be able to do on a laptop or dedicated pc. dedicated pc takes up some space and a tablet seems to be a slimmer option while also being able to use it still for designing. Hmm tricky choice
For sure, if you want to tweak designs, get a PC near it. I can't run Fusion on my 10" windows tablet and it cost more than a laptop
I've run the Black Box Controller from a Raspberry Pi 400 with 4GB of onboard memory and the Twister Operating System without any issues. There is a video on YouTube explaining the setup and another that allows you to Boot the Raspberry from an External SSD Hard Drive.
I use it mainly for control as it is in my garage. I am able to run Aspire on it for adjusting and reposting if needed.
Hi there, I have "commented out" using variable speed in the config.h file, recompiled and then uploaded to the Arduino UNO, but the CONTROL software still shows "variable speed" as being active. What am I doing wrong?
I agree but the section in my "config.h" looks as follows: // Enables variable spindle output voltage for different RPM values. On the Arduino Uno, the spindle // enable pin will output 5V for maximum RPM with 256 intermediate levels and 0V when disabled. // NOTE: IMPORTANT for Arduino Unos! When enabled, the Z-limit pin D11 and spindle enable pin D12 switch! // The hardware PWM output on pin D11 is required for variable spindle output voltages. // #define VARIABLE_SPINDLE // Default enabled. Comment to disable. I commented out the last line. Is that not sufficient? Thank you for the help.
Hi Peter, When I wired the UNO according to the following instruction the "variable speed" was now turned off. NOTE: IMPORTANT for Arduino Unos! When enabled, the Z-limit pin D11 and spindle enable pin D12 switch! It is counter-intuitive! I will keep checking.
Hey folks, I am experiencing "no webgl support found on this pc" It used to work. I have tried everything I can find on the net to get this working. I know its not a bug, but I'm at a point where I don't know what to do. I'm running Openbuilds v1.0.305 Gbrl 1.1h. Hardware accelerator is enabled. I have configured Edge, Chrome and FireFox for webgl. Windows is up to date. All drivers are up to date (I have also tried rolling back drivers to when webgl used to work). I have uninstalled/reinstalled Openbuilds several times then ran windows clean up and disk clean up, restart then reinstall fresh with fresh file download. Nothing seems to work. My system is as follows. Processor: AMD Ryzen5 5600X 6 core, 3701 Mhz on a Asus TUF Gaming A520M Bios V 2423 16 gig ram GPU: NVidia RTX Gforce 3060Ti with 8 gig ram Resolution is set to Recommended
The used to work part, indicates something changed in a Windows update or similar, tough to track down
