    Did that and corner to corner they are.. exactly the same, C-beam to C-beam distances are also perfectly even 86,1cm at front, mid and end.

    I have the Lead 1010 right now. If I were to order two 500mm c beams with some quad tee nut connectors to attach to my current 1010/the 1500 acme screws/framing extensions for underneath support with connectors/4 tensions nuts/4 thrust bearings would I be set to extend my lead 1010 to 1500mm? Do you know if the 1540mm acme screw will have enough length to add the tension nuts and bearings to the left side of the picture?

    In all your tests, did you try to move the machine all the way to one end, manually adjust the one side that is not touching the end (so that they are both the same distance from the end) and then run the machine all the way and check it there is a difference?

    The thinner plates replace the C-Beam Endmounts > Get some C-Beam Motor Mount Plate s - they allow the use of the 1540mm (540mm, 1040mm, etc) screws
    Or keep the endmounts and chop 12mm off the C-Beams

    Rather replace them, the joint is going to be problematic for the loads expected

    Holy Cow that is an expensive spindle. I bought a 1.5KW spindle for half that price and it came with a VFD and 15 collets ranging from 1mm to 7mm. There are also 0.8KW spindles and they are even less expensive.

    I bought it on AliExpress.

    Even with added support from the base structure under the spoilboard?

    I was looking over the bundle and there are a few things I wouldn't need. Considering I would be able to use some parts from my current machine the list below is what I have put together so far. Would these be everything I need in addition to the parts I would already have from the Lead 1010 to put together a tensioned 1500mm C beam?

    I suggest that OpenBuilds store sell a kit that have two motor plates, two sets of thrust bearings, two 40mm spacers, two 50mm screws, and one tension nut for people converting from compression (?) to tension system.

    Asking to be sure when connecting the Black Box to the PSU (Meanwell 350W) I didnt get the "PowerCase Kit" in my set, and I have to connect manually to the PSU. Want to be sure with the connection, as I understand I should connect a red wire to 24V slot on Blackbox and V+ on PSU, and the black one to GND on Blackbox and V- on PSU, am I right?

    What would cause this issue when surfacing the waste board? It seems to ramp up at each end. Thought I had the machine square and everything.

    One issue you probably have there, and need to fix before you can resolve the other probable issue (tramming), is that your spoilboard may be flexing under the pressure from the bit. Check that the edges of the spoilboard are as well supported as possible and that support is evenly distributed across the width.

    I think you are correct on the spoil board flexing on the ends, I just took a look it that appears to be happening. I'll fix that and try everything again. Thanks

    I read a post on Facebook mentioning the possibility of a convertor kit for the 1010 and making it into a 1015 or 1515 might be in the works.... Is there any truth to that?

    I have a 1010 and one of my biggest gripes is the way the spindle mount attaches to the c-beam with the four right angle brackets. I'm always having tramming issues, and far to0 often have to move these around and shim them by fractions of millimeters. Looking at the the high-z mod, and the new 1515 it looks like they are now using a XL plate and flipped the c-beam around. I don't really need the full high-z mod, but what would it take (parts) to modify the 1010 this way?

    It seems to me I've seen people discuss adding extra wheels to the Lead, but I can't seem to find the posts at the moment, and my machine doesn't appear to have much extra wheely room. Is this actually possible without making custom plates?

    I only ask because I noticed the wheels in the weekend sale.

    Not sure were I can get this going, I have the Lead 1010, I am enjoying how to learn/ use this technology, I am not a cnc guy. So I designed a Table to fixture that was 36" x 36" duh the blank wont fit I know should have checked but after redesigning it I get an error code Alarm 2 G code says this exceeds the travel of the machine, So here is my question, Using a .25 flat end mill , what is the cutting limit of the machine ?

    See Machine Comparison Table but best to measure (or test by jogging) your own machine as it may differ a little


    Read up about that here:
    Soft Limits - checks the distance and errors if it will exceed: gnea/grbl
    Max Travel - set that to your actual travel distances (from limit switches to far end on the other sides) gnea/grbl

    mine is setup to about Y 810mm x X 720mm
    So you are looking at 31.64” x 28.1”

    Thanks I have made changes, in my part what I am trying to cut isY 29.5" and X 27" and I got a exceeds machine limits,, Lead 1010 Black box, can I over ride this? It will simulate on the OB software and seem to run?

    The meat of it is :) read the Grbl wiki it explains it all :) i linked you to the particular settings of enabling/disabling soft limits (turn off the protection and hope for the best) and the better option of setting up your Max travel (fill in your actual travel distances so you can maximise your machinable width/length/depths to the physical maximums your machine can do

    You have to subtract out the width of your gantry plates (125mm) and anything else that gets in the way of the full distance of the axis. So, if your limit switch is to far out from a side, that too will take away space. I do not use limit switches or soft limits on mine at all so I can use the full extent of the available cutting area. But, by not having those safety features I am taking a risk in damaging something.
