I guess this is mostly for Openbuilds staff. So I have a modified Lead 1515 I have the High Z addon so clearance isnt an issue and I dont see needing most of the stuff in the addon package. Is it or will it be possible just to get the floating head, torch probe. and will this have Active torch height control? Will I need a new blackbox? I have an old possibly original version.
1) Won't need a new BlackBox, 4X supported the same touchoff setup docs:blackbox-4x:connect-plasma [OpenBuilds Documentation] 2) It doesn't use Torch height control, the add-on is in essence the floating head setup that takes care of warp for you - thats the point of the add-on 3) Not sure about the store specific questions - bundles tend to be ready to go as a bundle only and the bundle elements are not always in the store as seperate items - best to check in with Store support (support.openbuilds.com) though, seperate team from the community over here 4) Note the Add-on is for the 1010 (1515 has the Z axis the other way round: moving plates vs moving beam, so gets tricky) - might not fit a 1515
2. not sure I follow. How does it account for warp during a cut with out THC? Cuz its inevitable that during a cut the metal will warp messing up the torch height. My current machines measures the cut voltage during cutting and adjusts the height of the torch to keep it with in a certain voltage range. If you have a link to more detailed tech type info for me to read that would be great. 4. Where there is a will there is a way
Watch this video from around 9 min onwards explains nicely how a floating head works. A hobby grade machine with a Grbl based controller, typically uses touchoffs at the start of the next cut section + floating head for movement during the active cut. Works just fine. Somewhat of a budget difference to a machine that handles a fully indepent THC system after all. If you need THC, go with the bigger setups (Maslow, etc) Our add-on is an evolution of the older design shown, but the discussion on its theory is still valid
