Hey, home built CNC plasma with Black Box, test runs are good, no issues. When the plasma torch is activated (manually and by the black box), the box immediately disconnects. New to this slowly learning. Thx!

Sounds like too much EMI from plasma. Is it a HF start type by any chance?

You should be using a Blowback

Thank You! I was gonna get another plasma cutter anyway, but I'm glad I waited. Picked up a blowback and it works great!

I do have another question about the interface with the motors. With the power supply on, and sitting idle, the motors get quite hot and emit a squealing noise, as if there is some current to the motor. Is there a setting in the programming to adjust this, or is it all in the adjustment pots on the front of the unit. I do have to turn the y quite a bit up to function properly.

    Thanks again!

You can set the motors to disable, but note that then any time the machine idles, you can loose position, so its not recommended. Keeping the motors enabled (braking the axis) maintains position

Stepper motors do run hot. 65-80degC pretty normal, however as its a plasma you don't need max torque, you can adjust current down if you wish (not too low or they will stall) docs:blackbox-x32:currentadjustment [OpenBuilds Documentation]
