    Hey guys,

I've been using OpenBuilds for a few months now without any issues. A few days ago my laptop got fried during a thunder storm and I've had to resort to using an old desktop PC until I can get my laptop fixed.

I've installed all the software, drivers etc but when I try to connect to my cnc machine it gives me the following error: PORT ERROR: Opening COM15: Access denied.

Please help it's been really frustrating.

The desktop is fairly old, still runs on Windows 7.

Please let me know what info you require from my side in order to assist.

    Thanks in advance guys,
    Jantus

    - Check for any other running applications tying up the port. Access Denied usually means another application is holding on to the port You can use the process explorer tool also from SysInternals to search for open handles to see what may be using that port already

    - I notice its an Arduino Uno, not an FTDI based device, so also make sure you have the proper Arduino drivers installed from arduino.cc (they come in the same download as the IDE)
    - Uninstall and reinstall the port from Device Manager

I recently had this issue trying to make a wifi controlled garage door opener an no matter what I did, I could not program the board (using Windows 10). I researched the issue and no matter what, no solution worked. I got frustrated and quit. Later I restarted my computer for another issue and magically the "error: PORT ERROR: Opening COM15: Access denied" disappeared and everything worked again. Two days later I had the same error with another project so I restarted the computer again, and the error went away. I am no computer whiz, so there is probably a better fix. For me it was the path of least resistance

Arduino IDE or some other serial terminal running in background to debug what you were doing there?
