    Hello all -
I'm still very new to cnc's and I have a question about using the prob plus between bit changes.
I did a initial rough cut with a .25 in end mill setting up using the interface selecting .25 in bit and did an X,Y,Z probe.
I am going to change the endmill to a 1/16 inch tapered ballnose bit. When I use the probe for the new bit do I need to change the bit diameter as well? Do I need to re-probe X,Y and Z or just Z?

    Thanks in advance -
    Pete

No. Dont re-probe x and y. Z is the only thing that changes.

Keep in mind the reason you tell the probe routine what size bit you have is so that it can set X and Y to the center of the bit. That's why a lot of us can and will use a precision ground rod to set up our jobs and not the actual bit. All bits can very slightly in diameter due to machining tolerances. And probing on the flutes wont be accurate from x to y.

Thanks - So as I understand it once the X and Y are initially correctly set all bits used after that are good to go less the Z probe.

    Thank you

Yes. Until your stock moves (a new job with a different x and/or y)
