Hi all, I am having an issue with the centric adjustment on an cbeam xl linear actuator bundle. I cant get the wheels tight enough on the cbeam to take up the play. I can wiggle the spindle appx 1/16" endplay at a 1/4" bit and it is unusable as is. I have double checked the assembly for proper alignment and tightness, centrics are adjusted to full inward offset and there is still space between the wheels and beam, not even snug. I've attached a short video to give an idea of the play, Help...??? thanks, dkw
You also have the adjustment from the tolerance in the holes for the screws holding the V-wheels. Loosen the nuts on the fixed V-wheels and push them (with the eccentrics as loose as possible) towards the C-beam as you re-tighten them. Do the same for the screws holding the V-wheels with eccentrics. Then adjust the eccentrics. Alex.
There was way too much play to take up with the little bit of movement in the plates as they were machined however... Problem solved, the thought of adjustments on both sides of the plate triggered a "moment of clarity". I drilled the fixed side of the plate to accept centrics. Good to Go.
Oh, that's not actually a good solution - the reason there aren't eccentrics on the top wheels is you need a fixed reference. If you think about it, if you have eccentrics on the top you could tilt the whole gantry (eg Y front to back and X side to side). Also, eccentrics can change their position with vibration. Alex.
I considered that and was careful to align the centrics during the setup. I check the machine regularly as I have noticed the loosening effect on other wheels on the carriages. This solution was a simple fix to an otherwise unworkable setup, until I (someone) can get to the bottom of what was wrong I'm up and running. Thanks for the input! dkw
