I’ve got a SD card left over on the build and the computer usb turns the light on in the black box but I can’t get it to hook to the computer. It says no usb where you are supposed to find the com 6 thing. Does that card go somewhere or I’m I doing wrong. Please help I’m so close to getting it operational.

SD Card is not used (by beginners, you can set aside it for now)

Failing to see the port sounds more like you skipped step 4.1 of the BlackBox Documentation: docs:blackbox-x32:install-drivers [OpenBuilds Documentation]

If you skipped 4.1, check you possibly skipped step 4.2 as well, and recheck all your wiring against sections 2 and 3. Also go over Section 1 to learn what everything does

Ok I tried to download the drivers but it don’t seem to help. Starting to get a little frustrated because watching the help and setup videos it’s just supposed to be plug and play but it’s not. I have a computer with what appears to have all of the qualifying things in it. I can’t get the com6 FTID to come up in the first step after plugging in the black box to the computer so it can download firmware. I would have figured since I bought the 1515 it would have been already downloaded in the black box.

Just downloaded, or proceeded with the Install too?

It is "plug and play" - though if your PC has Windows Automatic Driver download disabled you will have to download and install the drivers manually.

    Its very simple though.
FTDI was BlackBox 4X and then X32 up to V1.3. The newer V1.4 you likely have will be SiLABS so make sure you downloaded the CORRECT Drivers?

Apart from Drivers, it could be something else though, we assume drivers just because that's one you might have skipped over in the docs. See docs:blackbox-x32:faq-identify-motor-coils [OpenBuilds Documentation] as advised by the onscreen error too - it covers things like a miswiring killing the BlackBox, trying a different PC and a couple other steps

Did you remember to reboot after installing the driver?

If you can see the photos the black screen is from the windows surface laptop and the other is from the desktop. As you can see the desktop has com 5 and 4 as options the laptop has no options. I’ll talk to a IT friend to see if he can help with the driver issue.

Yes please - both seem like computer related problems (one missing drivers, the other failing to open port (drivers, permissions, conflicting applications holding onto port already etc))

USB is factory tested as part of QA so you can be rest assured it worked. We also use the same port to preflash firmware onto the BlackBox for you.

If its not working now, its more likely an IT problem. Miswiring etc results in a more completely dead BlackBox (See earlier links)

Hi Peter after some computer reconfiguration I’ve got to a com 3 and it downloaded everything. And it jogs around on the x and Z axis when it jogs on the y axis y one moves in the correct direction and y 2 moves in the wrong direction at the same place. Should I change the black and red to change polarity to make y 2 move in the opposite direction

Hi again I think I’ve got it going now I found a crossed wire on one of the y motors. I’m going to try to run it through its paces later. The driver install was very tricky on the windows surface. Thanks for your help now the fun begins. Haha.
