Hi all, I build custom DJ gear and build custom units out of parts. In a nutshell I add a y component to the already existing x-component for a DJ mixer X-fader. For this I attach the x-fader to a vertical rail mechanism so it can move up and down. mm precision is not needed but it does need to move smoothly so thus far I have used MGN9C rails (which are about 20x30mm) and a 150mm length rail on each side. These are made of steel and bearings driven. It works OK but is also 'unnecessarily' strong. 2 gliding 'parts' would do the same job and work fine as well. I have been looking around for a more economic solution (bearing rails are not cheap) but haven't really found anything, until I bumped into openbuilds. I have been told I should use V-slot and V-rail for this kind of action. I guess a V-rail, a gantry plate and 2 v-wheels would do it - but it also seems like it would become rather large (2 wheels and a gantry plate next to a 20mm rail is already quite wide for my case). Anyone have any ideas on how it can be done in a different way? Cheers, Bob
Take a look at the mini-V gantry plate and mini-V wheels. Its only 50mm square so it really doesn't look all that disproportionate to the 20x20 rail.
