Hello, I am newbie to cnc, i face some problems with stepper motors,attached video what is happening, as i read this forum it should be something with wiring. Can you aim where to look for problem?
Either only 3 of the 4 wires are making good contact, or you have the coil-pairs incorrectly identified. Check every terminal/joint/connection and make sure nothing is pinching insulation instead of wire, and that every joint is solid and correct. If that doesn't resolve it, check that you have the correct wires identified for each coil inside the motor. Those do look like motors from us right? (then color codes on docs.openbuilds.com should be correct)
This all kit i bought from Europe, i thought it will be openbuild workbee,but it's from China. I reconnect all jointand=n Now it's moving better,but strange, i press -Z, but it's moving one time up,then down.
Then you still have the coil pairs incorrectly identified Google the motor's model number sometimes you can find datasheets that tell you the color code for each coil (our datasheets for our motors do (; hehe - screenshot below) If you can find a datasheet: look for the coil diagram like that. You want a coil on pins1/2 of the connector on the controller, and the other coil on pins 3/4 of the connector: If you cannot locate a datasheet for the exact motor: Take a multi-meter in resistance mode. Clip one probe to any random wire, probe around until you find its pair (gives a reading when measured). Mark those two wires as a Pair. The remaining two will be another pair (measure to confirm) On the connector you want a coil (pair) on pins 1 and 2 Other coil on pins 3 and 4
Thank you very much Peter, you were right, pairs were mixed, when i do as you said everything is working fine.
I can't seem to figure out if the stepper coils need to be wired with correct polarity. reading online, people just suggest measuring if there is a low resistance on the coils or not, but it doesn't say anything about if one a coil is wired A+ = 1 and A- = 2 or the other way around. Logically it should make a difference as it's essentially an electro magnet, but i can't seem to figure it out. any insight on this would be greatly appreciated.
+/- Doesnt make a difference, as long as you have one coil on A+/A-, and the other on B+/B- If +/- is "incorrect" just flip any axis going the wrong way, in Grbl Settings (easy) See docs:blackbox:faq-identify-motor-coils [OpenBuilds Documentation] for a full explanation
Okie. Thanks. Im not sure i fully understand why the polarity of the coils doesnt make any difference, but I figure it has to do with the fact it’s only 4 coils in total. In any case - I’ll try it out thanks again for sharing your wisdom!
Its only two coils. 4 wires. If you get it wrong, the motor just runs the opposite direction (flip a switch in software and its correct. But get the pairs incorrectly paired up and it wont spin at all.
