I was trying out a project that had some hole drilling in 1/2 in baltic birch. The first hole would drill just fine, but the second and subsequent holes proved to be a catastrophe. When it got to the second hole it would drill out the hole but the bit would not retract to above the work surface, and it would plow through the wood to the third hole and just get progressively worse from there. For some reason the z axis motor seems to be stalling and that seems to be the problem. I re-adjusted everything, ran the same job several more time but it just got worse. I also did an "air" trial and that seemed to work. I tried adjusting the current but that introduced an error and I had to shut the system down. Both the X and Z axis are driven by NEMA 34 motors connected to ball and screw drives. Any suggestions on how to fix this issue?

set the max rate and acceleration for Z to half what they are now, clearyl it is losing steps by trying to move too fast.
set the currnet on the Z driver to 80% of what the motor labels says is the max current.

If I may impose on you for some additional advice. I have attached a few photos of my home-built machine which is approximately 5'x10' and is powered by a Blackbox X32. I have yet to install pairs of openbuild limit switches but I do have proximity switches installed. There are some things that I may redo but for all intents and purposes the machine works as it is. Based on the photos and having a better appreciation of Blackbox X32, can you recommend some settings that may better serve my machine considering my first post. cnc3.jpg cnc2.jpg CNC1.jpg
