I am finally getting to connect the Openbuilds Blackbox I purchased in early May, 2021. All seemed to work fine for a couple of days, then I started to lose USB connection. Wiggling the USB cable, sometimes works, but often stops working in the middle of a cut. I’ve disconnected the motors, limit switches and probe, tried 2 different Macintosh computers, a Windows 10 PC, and Ubuntu PC, all show the same problem — oh, and 4 different USB cables. I notice the USB indicator light rapidly flickers when I am able to connect, goes off entirely when I can’t connect, but never goes steady on. Do I have a buggy BlackBox, if so, how can I fix this problem? Help me or shoot me, I can’t go on living this way.
It blinks red/green or green/blue (depending on the version of your BlackBox) when data is sent/received - it will almost never light up solid More likely EMI, but, please check the Serial Terminal's log for more details - better to troubleshoot with log data, more accurate than trying to determine from symptoms. Have a read through docs:blackbox:faq-emi [OpenBuilds Documentation] and see if any applies to you, especially any 3rd party parts in use (please include details of what exactly you have in use) like Spindles or Dust Extraction
Thank you Peter for your quick reply. I’ve read through the material on EMI, and took steps to eliminate that as a possible cause for the problems I’m still having. I’ve tried new cables, other PCs, Macs and Linux computers and all show the same problem: USB connects if the plug is moved to a certain position. See the video attached. When I apply pressure on the cable, the laptop shows the USB port is available. When I remove pressure, that same port is removed from the list. please advise.
