I am contemplating building my build with M8 bolts instead of the M5 bolts partially due to I cannot find a M5 bolt long enough for what I want to do, and partly for added strength. I plan to use the 688z 8x16x5 bearings in the parts store as well as the 0.062" thick spacer in between the bearings. Would this be an issue since the shim is 1.575mm thick instead of the 1.0mm shim that comes with the wheel kits? If not, can anyone forward me to a good supplier of 8mm ID precision shims? Thanks!
You can get lots of different lengths of M5 at McMaster Carr. I needed some 75mm for my build so I got them there.
I got all my M5's from openbuilds, good price.. you can always get M5 all thread on ebay if you need a real long span.. How would you do the eccentric nuts? with M8
I need about 130mm, I am trying to span across a horizontal C-beam plus a vertical 20 span. I actually didnt think about using all thread. Good idea! I am a bit worried that at that span the bolts may actually sag holding the z-axis up. I have a couple ideas that I added to an existing thread here depending on which plate thickness I plan to use: eccentric spacers Basically either use set screws from the bottom of the riser plate to push the bolt up on each wheel, or add a separate wheel plate that bolts and can slide along the riser plate that would adjust all the wheels at once.
Yes it will be an issue as it will allow the wheel to wallow back and forth. The shims need to be the same thickness as the interior ridge in the wheels.
