    Hi Peter
I have re done all the settings and double checked to make sure I have set the vfd to 220. everything is doing as it should now, apart from spindle speed, it won't change it stays at 7560 turning the 0-010v screw makes no change. I shifted along to ROTT while doing this.

Check that 0-10v section hasn't been damaged? docs:blackbox-x32:connect-vfd [OpenBuilds Documentation] - Redo the multimeter test as shown with VFD disconnected. Try other speeds too (CONTROL > Tool On menu - max rpm = +-10v, 50% speed should be +-5v, etc)

That will tell you if the VFD is ignoring the signal, or if something damaged the BlackBox.

Hi Peter No change, these are results; multimeter readings; BBx32. when taking readings, the multimeter probes are on the screws in the plugs.

000.9mv when bb off and no vfd

000.9mv bb off and vfd on

9.2v when bb and vfd are on

3.165 vwhen bb and vfd on with spindle running. Speed reading from the vfd is 7560 rpm.

I originally had vfd plugged into the tool socket, I then changed to ground in the 0-10 socket and power in the tool socket, so if it was a 4 socket plug it would be the the 2 outside connections.
I have photos if it helps.

Lots of other unwanted tests now with VFD connected and what not :) - please do test as requested.

Should have been without VFD. Just multimeter.
VFD out of the picture, 3rd party component, we want to test if the BlackBox is fine...

And BB On means what? Just powered up or Spindle Speed set to what? (use that tool on menu, don't work off assumptions of what commanded spindle speed is, explicitly set speeds, then check readings for each test)

Test is so we can see
    • Whats the 0-10v at 0% speed.
    • Whats the voltage at 0-10v port with 50%, 100%, 33%, etc.
    Or assuming standard 24KRPM spindle:

    • Whats the 0-10v measurement at 0RPM which is 0% (should be close to 0v)
    • What's the 0-10v measurement at 7200RPM (30%) (should be around 3v)
    • Same for 12000RPM (50%) (+-5V)
    • Same but 24000RPm (100% and +-10V)
    • Same for any RPM, scale is +- linear

If the voltages differ from expected, either something damaged the BlackBox or could still be Grbl Settings related but until we get the tests we can't say for sure there is even an issue at the BlackBox/Grbl side...

Wiring things wrong tends to cause damage. Perhaps too late now, but use the terminal as intended (not sure why you have GND on different terminals etc, dangerous randomness)

The wiring , as I said it was only wired to the tool socket originally, then following the video it says use the 2 outside connections because his bb is the older one with a 4 socket and i have 2 separate 2 wire sockets.
I will go and do the tests now and get back to you. I will try and video it if i can. Thanks Peter

Thats an old BlackBox 4X video, you have a BlackBox X32... Ports are no where near the same on that end of things

Really don't need a video. Just want you to see if the 0-10v ports been destroyed (order a new controller, or live without speed control and just set running speed on VFD itself before a job, most jobs run at same RPMs anyway) or if its still outputting expected voltages (then problem on VFD side)

    Hi Peter
    Right, vfd disconnected.
    Power supply off.
bb switched off (rocker on/off switch) = 354mv

    bb on
    vfd disconnected
    power on

    10% = .78v
    25% = 1.58v
    50% = 3.311v
    100% max 24k spindle speed = 6.76v

0-10v rail is powered off the 24v rail. You need BlackBox up and running. Just VFD disconnected

    Hi Peter
the only thing that is disconnected is the vfd.
    Everything else is on.

    bb on
    vfd disconnected
    power on (24v power supply)

    10% = .78v
    25% = 1.58v
    50% = 3.311v
    100% max 24k spindle speed = 6.76v

Now there is good scaling (so hope, doesn't look damaged) (1.6V is about 25% and 3.3V about 50% of 6.7V... so doesn't appear to be damaged)

But voltage off (either potentiometer adjustment or Grbl Settings with wrong PWM frequency etc)

    1) Grab a Grbl Settings backup for review (CONTROL > Grbl Settings tab > Backup Settings button > Attach file here)
and 2) Make sure you did the calibration? docs:blackbox-x32:connect-vfd [OpenBuilds Documentation]

    Hi Peter
This is the calibrated file. 24k I got 10.02v after adjustment

Then 12000 rpm, 50% gives you +-5v etc? (should but redo tests to prove then that BlackBox is fine. Mainly now for yourself to prove that you know your BB is +- spot on.

I take you skipped adjustment originally then? :)

With BlackBox then giving correct signals, test VFD again. If still off, blackbox-x32 not the culprint.

    Thanks peter.
I did do the calibration, but I followed the video where he adjusted the screw watching the rpm value on the vfd.

When I did the calibration with the multimeter I had a different reading to what was shown on the vfd. e.g. 24k on vfd = something like 9.2v

I adjusted the screw to get as close to 10v as possible.

Well the outcome is good, I can adjust speed now.
I have it plugged into the 0-10v socket now, I originally had it plugged in the tool socket.

I think all my teething troubles are over now. I can get on and start using the machine properly.

    Thanks for the help Peter.
