Has anyone used the Vinyl plotter electronics to build a router? I have a product I like to cut with a router (.25 soft aluminum) and I will love to use the open build mechanism. I am also very familiar with the sign software. I love to build a 30" X 30" table.
what you need is a Cbeam XL the mechanics of a vinyl plotter will certainly not be able to cut aluminum.
Thanks. Couple questions... can I have the option of a larger work area? If so how big? Does that price include software? Thanks again for your reply.
someone has already done it. the XL is already an expansion of the Cbeam and if you search the forums I am sure you will find a larger build.... (and consequent comments on stiffness or lack thereof) BUT you want to cut aluminum which requires STIFFNESS. long axes are not stiff so you want as small a machine as will do the job. while aluminum is 'softer' than steel, it is still a very hard material compared to wood and plastics to the machine stiffness requirements are high. the ACRO system is for laser cutting. laser cutting does not even touch the material, there is no cutting force, and so no, I would not recommend any sort of ACRO system for physical cutting as it is not stiff enough. search these forums for 'stiffness' and 'stiffening' and 'flex' and similar words. all these things have been addressed already.
