I would like to build a cnc router to cut a though design in 1/2"-3/4" Baltic birch ply (blanks will be pre-cut at 23"x11",and also carve in pink foam sheets. I have 1x3 80/20 so i was thinking i could make the "frame" with that.(is that too light?) I have 80/20,a router,a computer with xp can upgrade to win 7, I know I would need drive system (motors,controller) Do I need to go to acme rod,ball screw or can I go cheaper like all thread or belt or something in between? What else big money would I need to build a simple unit?any recommended designs? I can live with plus minus 1/16" tolerance.
