Hi. Does anyone know where i can get a drilling jig for v-slot? I'm based in the UK BTW. I saw this jig that someone made... V Slot Drilling and Taping Jigs by FunKing3d It looks good but I don't have access to a 3D printer and the bushings weren't available on Amazon. I also found a company selling a jig but it was around £282, which is way too expensive. Drilling Jig 5 - MBS Item
I want to use holes instead of brackets to connect the profiles. Ideally, I want a jig to drill 3 x holes in 20x60 v-slot extrusion.
If you’re talking 5mm holes it’s fairly easy to knock out a jig from a 1” scrap of 20x60 and a small block of wood. At work right now but when I get home I’ll make a quick sketch of what I’m referring.
OK thanks. I should note that i don't really have any tools to make anything, hence why i wanted to buy something. However, if it's easy to do then i'll look into it
Ah right. And it works ok? Something like this crossed my mind but i was concerned that the holes would be too small. I'd like to reuse it often, and so i assumed i would need to put some bushings in the holes otherwise it would damage the aluminium when i drill. P.S. I don't have a drill press.
Yes basically what @that-jim said. And you really don’t need a drill press. You’ll find as you drill out the lengthwise holes in the 20x60 the bit is somewhat self centering as it follows the path of least resistance down the center of the hole.
With the lack of tools I'd highly recommend brackets instead. The through bolt method also requires you to perfectly square the ends. Brackets are easy, much stronger, and easier to square up properly
I drilled with a smaller 'pilot' drill then came back and enlarged the holes freehand. This will last for a while but if you have a lot to do you might want some thing with bushings. You could even use the extrusion to establish the spacing for a more permanent jig.
