I've hooked up the black box X32 and controller and everything works great except hooking up the spindle. This is a chinese 3040 with a two wire spindle and I'm lost on how to wire it up. Do I need a separate controller for it? Which would seem rather silly at this point.

Most spindles either needs a VFD or are self contained. What kind of spindle is this? Is it a "real" spindle? Not maybe just an underpowered DC motor or something like that?

You may want to consider a RoutER11 CNC Kit if thats the case

probably an underpowered dc spindle but I don't want to throw any more money at this thing right now. I've already got a router on my piranha fx and I just wanted a smaller machine for detail work. I might just have to use the original controller to power the spindle for now but that's just more stuff clogging up my work area.

Yes, that's a DC motor. You will need to use its original power supply. (Be careful, as many of them don't isolate the output from the mains electricity supply.)

Yeah they are a little notorious, control it manually - don't wire it up to the BlackBox (or at least not if you want to use a warranty at some point)

Thanks persons, What are my options when I do want to throw some money at getting a real spindle?

I have to chime in here. I went the 800W air-cooled spindle + VFD route. It works. But it was a royal pain to get everything installed, configured, and tested. Even using the spindle day to day is annoying, requiring two connections to work and constant electromagnetic interference problems.

Listen to Peter. When he says "easiest" it is #@?!! worth it.
