When I select Controlled Power Off or Pause. The CNC Z axis does not move to safe before heading home. Obviously, what happens is, it crashes / cuts it's way home ruining my part. Really confused as to why the Z axis does not move to safe height first.

Thanks for any help on this

What controller are you using? I'm guessing from your location and the mention of controlled power off that you have the Duet?

What happens when you home the machine on switch-on? Is the Z homing correctly then? If not you have a problem with the wiring to your Z homing switch - they are normally closed switches on recent workbee's from Ooznest, so any break in the wiring to a homing switch gives a signal to the Duet that the switch has been triggered.
If that is not the issue please copy and paste here the text from your pause.g file.

    Alex.

PS - two places to look at for wiring problems - where the wire from the Z homing switches SHOULD be going up the side of the X gantry plate it often catches on the X drag chain, and the connector to the Duet board may be loose and it has been known for the crimp connectors to be damaged.

Thank you, I will check all of these things, I have a spare Z switch. When pausing and and doing a controlled power off, the Z should move to safe shouldn't it?

Haven't used the controlled power off, but pause.g by default calls homeall.g - it should home Z followed by homing X and Y.
Pause can fail to work properly if you use it during an arc - it sometimes returns to the correct position when you resume, but has lost the info about the arc, so travels in straight lines to the beginning of the next line of g-code.

In case you didn't know, you can use the Duet Web Control to test the homing switches ;-

Thanks for the help, the issue was the Z axis limit switch. What a pain replacing it, just glad I had a spare. Thanks again

Just make sure you have routed the wire so it can't catch on the drag chain - tape it to the edge of the X gantry plate.
