Setting up Blackbox X32 for the first time. I was unable to get the static IP address to take. it was getting .42 from my router and I want it on .100. When I went to the ip address in chrome it came up with an interface to move the axis and a bunch of other kinda fancy stuff. Changed settings and could not get the static ip to take. Thought I would flash the firmware and check everything went a bit funny. my settings remained but the web interface was now just a screen with terminal access and an sd card management interface. I still can’t get the static ip working.
Yeah that’s what seems to have changed a lot of stuff. Originally I had the option for selecting Static or DHCP as well. I am not sure what has changed everything but I also allows control to update itself. Now I have less options in the GRBL settings and the web based interface directly to the x32 is different.
A lot. See core/changelog.md at master · grblHAL/core Welcome to the V3 interface, remember to complete the Installation: GitHub - grblHAL/Plugin_WebUI: ESP3D-WEBUI backend for networking capable drivers/boards with SD card support by uploading the Index file.
Had a good web interface with controls at the start. Now it’s just something super basic. Do I need to buy an SD card for the X32?
The installation instructions are a bit unclear, it’s talking about files to change but I haven’t interacted with any files so far. How do I stop the firmware update after it downloads to complete modifications before OpenBuilds CS finished? I think maybe there is something I am missing here. Seems like by using OBCS to flash the firmware it was wrong? The flashing tool seems a bit broken too. You have to swap to a different tab and come back to the X32 to get the option to wipe settings or not to show up.
What version of CONTROL are you on? No, always been optional. Also no need to buy one, we gave you one for free with the X32 No, added features, cleaned things up, fixed bugs Reread my instructions. Upload the index file. We did all the compile steps for you, already, as usual.
Upload it to where using what software? I don’t see an upload button in OBCS other than opening a file. Is other software needed? The instructions too just say to upload the file.. doesn’t say where to upload to or what system they are even using. Is there some web repository I have to sign up for to upload a file and then somehow link it to my Blackbox?
In the management web interface, you can upload the UI. Theres even options for different UIs but V3 is nicest
OBCS doesn’t seem to have a file system panel. I am not sure what software they are using to communicate with it but I am pretty sure it’s not OBCS but there isn’t mention of any other software in the installation instructions you linked. Everything just says to upload a file using a file system panel and that’s it.
I uploaded the file and now there is an ESP3D option along the top but nothing else and that link just opens the same page in a new tab
I uploaded it and it’s different again. This seems so messy compared to the original Blackbox I don’t know if I even have the right documentation for the X32 because none of this seems to be in there. Maybe I am not looking in the right spot. Even changing the IP addresses in the GRBL settings flags the Save to Firmware button as if changes need to be submitted but the button still does nothing. If I change another setting it makes the changes. Just ignores the IP settings. I don’t have an option in the GRBL settings anymore to even use a static IP. It said before the firmware update Static/DHCP now that option isn’t even there. I am worried about replacing the Blackbox with the X32 now. Everything was just in place in the expected spot based on the documentation for the origins blackbox. I wasn’t expected to understand other developers documentation or there was at least a bridge in the knowledge to get what I needed. I don’t see the clear path on the X32 like other stuff with the original.
You are definitely overthinking some of it. Use CONTROL like you always have. Static IP is not needed. Web interface is not needed. This whole discussion is you wanting to do odd stuff after all Set SSID and Password and be done with it. DHCP is fine! Use CONTROL to connect to it over USB or Wifi and be done with it. The OpenBuilds way. Still as solid as always. Why would you want to use the WebUI anyway, you have CONTROL.... The grblHAL extra features exist of coarse for those who want to go beyond our ecosystem, but no one is forcing it on you...
I felt like I changed something away from the packaged setup of it. It was like unclean somehow now. I don’t want the web interface, OBCS is air to me. I just wanted to swap it over in place. If you say it’s good to go with then I am ok with that.
Then thats as easy as Old BlackBox > CONTROL > Grbl Settings tab > Backup Settings New BlackBox > Update firmware > Grbl Settings tab > Restore Backup Done. Firmware updates are more in grblhal (grbl had last update years ago. Stable yes, but not always good. Nice to have firmware that actually fixes bugs and add features) but other than that, same same as it always was. With extras on top, but in no way necessary!
