XYZ probe not on corner of work piece?

I haven't used my probe yet still sorting a few problems.

I've watched videos of everybody using then on the corner of their workpiece.

Is there a way to not use them on a corner? Just to get the z ? If it's not on a corner it would be higher due to the lip?
