So when I run a job my y2 is skipping on the acme screw. It’s almost acting like it’s binding up and throwing the whole gantry off and screwing up the job. I’ve tried running it slower, but it still does it every couple of times.

So far I have double checked all of my measurements to make sure the machine is square. It was off maybe .5-1mm end to end. I have made sure all the acme screws are greased with white lithium grease. I removed the Xaxis gantry and checked the screw and mounts, I made sure everything was not over tightened as far as the set screws are concerned. I checked the pots on the black box and everything seemed fine. I have not taken an oscope to the motors yet. I checked all wiring end to end continuity and everything is ohming out fine. I swapped the Y2 and Y plug at the controller to see if the issue swapped sides.

If I jog the gantry from home to the far end it binds up and throws it off sometimes 5mm to 100mm. If I run a small job it fine, but a larger job even at slower speeds it sometimes binds. It doesn’t happen every time but it’s about 70% of the time.

These are my last ideas to try. One, I get a new motor and see if that fixes it (current ones are brand new). Two, the bearings at either end of the Yaxis holding the acme screw need to be replaced (which being fully enclosed I wouldn’t expect). Three, the screw is bent or damaged where I don’t see it and it’s causing it to bind (it does have wobble in it, but it seems normal because of the length). Any other ideas would be appreciated. I tried to attach a video of it just making a squeaking noise while running a job I’ll try and get one of it in the morning just jogging back and forth. See attached.

Just a bit lost. Thank you,

    Josiah

Does it happen consistently in the same spot?

Does it only happen when it first starts moving or changes direction? If so, your acceleration rate may be too high. Is it an Openbuilds machine with a router on it, or is there a much heavier spindle on it?

It happens in different spots. It was a custom designed machine from CNC4NEWBIE. I have a Bosch 1617 on it now. I turned up the potentiometers on the black box to accommodate Nema23 motors. I spoke to support this morning and am going to perform a full maintenance and all new greasing of everything and see where I end up
