Hey guys, I want to build my first CNC and the C-Beam seems quite interesting, but the x axis just isnt long enough for my needs. Would it be possible to buy a 1000mm C-Beam linear actuator and use it as the new x-axis? I would buy the extra profiles needed too. Could i use the original X-axis (500mm) as a second y-axis stepper? Could this work or is it too unstable? Kind regards MS
Thanks for the replies. @Rick 2.0 The c-Beam Xl looks kinda difficult to build with the filing-off and sawing needed. Do I need to saw C-Beam or just normal v-slot profiles which I could order in a custom length? @GrayUK Thats the linear actuator I meant MS
Only one piece of the 20x40 needs sawn off and it doesn't have to be perfect. Fairly simple work with a hacksaw, even easier with a chop saw. As to the need for filing, the potential exists equally for all the systems whether C-Beam machine, C-beam XL or C-beam linear actuator as they are all based around the same product, the C-beam. While every attempt is made to cut the beams square they are not always perfect which is why they may or may not need filed.
