    Hi

I want to build a cnc mill to cut to size filter foam (polyether).

Maximum thickness of foam would be 30mm, just curious as to whether the ox has enough clearance?

I think the Stock plates are 80 to 90mm clearance. I had mine bumped up another 2 1/2" inches on top of that.

    Hi

I assume the stock plates can be customised to increase the height.

The 80-90mm clearance you stated that's the clearance between the cutting bed and the y-axis isn't it. The actual mount that holds the mill (I believe it's called the spindle), hangs below the y-axis and looks like it's just a couple of inches above the cutting bed. Or can the spindle be lifted up higher?

You can go with extended length Gantry Plates like I did. I have seen the plate kits even taller than mine on eBay. My plates are 2 1/2" taller than stock. Several things play into this also your bed position and how long of travel you want on your "Z" axis. You can customize the OX to your needs.
