Could this be addapted to laser engrave a pen?

 

You should be able to adapt it, instead of using a servo to move the pen up and down, replace it with a pwm controlled laser diode. Not sure if this machine would have the resolution and accuracy to do fine engraving on a small diameter pen though.

 

Thanks for your reply. I was thinking of useing the basic frame but use a lead screw instead and as you suggested a laser, I belive Bangood do some reasonable low powered units.
The only way to find out is to build it and see

 

That's the way I approach things as well, there is no failure available, only opportunities to learn how not to do something
