Hello. I'm making a 3D printer where the frame is made out of v-slot profiles. For my z-axis I use V-wheels, but this is where I have a problem. The motion is very smooth and there is no movement in any direction other than the z-axis. However, if I let the printer stand for a while, there is a "notch" in the movement, where the bridge stood still, and on every turn the wheels take. This "notch" moves if I leave the bridge in another place, and I can not feel anything on the wheels' surface with my fingers. I have changed ball bearings to a better quality (I used to use some bad ball bearings), but this has not helped. Does anyone have an idea why this happens, and how I can remove it. /Hans
Delrin wheels can develop temporary flat spots if pressure is too great. Check to be sure you haven't overtightened the eccentric nuts. Wheels only need to be snugged up to the track to function properly.
Thanks for the answer, I have loosened the wheels so they just fit in to the groove, but I'm still able to rotate them with my fingers. I still have a relatively large weight from the printing bed that presses downward, and the wheels helps to control this weight. Therefore, there will still be pressure on the wheels. Should I replace the wheels with polycarbonate wheels?
