Some day I will build a 3-axis CNC router. Right now, I want to build a lifter and positioner for a stationary router. I want to actuate a switch with my foot to lift my router -5 mm to 5 mm into a workpiece. Like normal router table operation, I would move my workpiece along a fence, from one stop to another. Unmaking the foot switch should retract the bit. A second make of the switch would do a 15 mm lift, and I would move the workpiece to make another pass. Subsequent passes would follow until a precise mortise depth is reached. Unmaking the switch would drop the router bit to the safe retracted state.

I believe that all of the parts and system controls for my lifter mechanism are available here. I believe that this will be a safer way to lift an upcut spiral router bit into a workpiece. I have a suitable router, lift platform, and a strong desire to create a safer method of making the multiple passes on a mortise. I would like parts recommendations and reasons that I will not be able to fab this tool.
