A Sphinx build to inspire and encourage all those who want to get started with cnc to check out Opensbuilds line of machine bundles and hardware.

The UltiBots CB3030 CNC uses C-Beam, V-Slot and an extruded aluminum T-Slot work table. This allows 6mm T-Nuts, step clamps and blocks to secure materials to the work surface. The all metal design makes the use of a mister possible.

A quick and simple saw stop build.

I’m making a desktop CNC machine based on the C-Beam platform. It will be driven by Tr8 Lead Screws, and initially made from 12mm birch ply plates.

This small desktop machine is built inside a 300mm cube of 20mm extrusion. Work area is 14cm by 14cm. I used 400 step nema17 motors all around.

The Smart Laser Mini is an open source such as use Raspberry pi. Easy to assemble type of desktop laser cutter and engraver. Also we used V-slot

This is a small desktop vacuum former that can be connected to a shop-vac and an electric heat source (like a grill for instance). You can control the time each appliance stays turned on, and the vacuum is automatically turned on when the tray is placed on top of the model. The vacuum table is 20x20cm wide, and I've tested it mostly with 1mm thick PET sheets.

A Benchtop Plasma Cutter Concept

Just starting a miter saw stop system. Any suggestions appreciated.

This build was very complex due to the fact I wanted to create a low cost larger than normal CNC. I did not want a MDF or plastic body. I wanted it to be able to do more than most CNC routers this size on the market.

This is my first CNC router build, so I started with the OpenBuilds C-Beam Machine XLarge mechanical bundle, including four high torque stepper motors. I took my time with the mechanical build, sought and found some great help for my control system, and designed and built a custom cabinet to house everything.

300x300 belt drive laser etching/cutting platform. The design was borrowed from another's blog and customized to fit materials on-hand. Was a very fun project to assemble.

This unit is made with openbuild v-rail and c-beam. using direct drive with lead screws. Nema23 motors

wooden parts of the enclosure can be removed easily used the existing extraction of my glass bead burners

Gantry style rigid build

With the focus always on larger builds I wanted to focus on a desktop PCB milling machine that fulfills the average users desktop needs at an entry level cost. Design considerations will allow expandable capabilities to include 3D printing and any other functions a small form Cartesian robot can perform. The current iteration has a desktop footprint of approximately 15.5" X 14.5".

My first openbuilds submission, plain old c-beam machine. Seems like I've spent more time fighting the forum here redirecting in circles than actually building the machine. I'll try to add more pics if I ever find a path out of this corn maze...

The frame is made from all open builds parts, add the rubber feet and pads for the glass. The glass is clear 12" x 16" x 1/4" with a polished edge. A light basket slides on the countertop.
