This is my first major project.

Getting an accurate scan of a golf ball can be difficult with general-purpose 3D scanners. This purpose-built golf ball scanner uses a very accurate Keyence LK-081 laser displacement sensor with an Open Builds linear actuator for the vertical axis and a Sherline CNC rotary table for the turntable. Scan detail is determined by the sample step size and can be set arbitrarily based on desired scan time.

A 1.9 x 1 m table that uses a magnet to move a steel ball and draw geometric patterns in sand. The magnet is moved using a corexy mechanism driven by 3D printer controller board reading the patterns in the form of gcode files.

Need to build a machine that accurately positions objects for processing by a computer vision algorithm? Here is an example of a machine that does that for a ball trajectory application. The black anodized V-rails work well for applications in optics and imaging where the machine needs to stay out of the limelight.

The COTSPnP pick-and-place machine (PnP) is used to place surface-mount devices (SMDs) onto a printed circuit board and was designed and built exclusively from off-the-shelf (COTS) components, predominantly sourced from OpenBuilds and Actobotics. Its intended use is prototyping and not high rate, high volume production and is capable of precisely placing parts as small as 0402 capacitors and resistors but more importantly, can precisely place components with lead spacing as small a 0.4mm.

A practical rotating and stand-alone spool holder which fits any filament extrusion 3D-printer. Several base files provided which make it fit different extruded aluminium profiles.

I know this build is a little off category here at OB, but I wanted to share it with the community (as well as other coffee lovers) and show however vast the possibilities are when OB hardware is involved. This is a powered stand intended to operate a manual coffee grinder. It is compact, light, portable and uses simple drive components (B&D Cordless Screwdriver). I will post two version, V-1 (Beginner skill level ) and V-2 (Intermediate skill level). Both accomplish the same results.

The parts are now very reasonable.

I'm Brandoneous; hence, the BrandoneOuX, a cartesian CNC build. Large format (1000mm x 1000mm) but beefed-up to solidly augment the ability to cut Aluminum in addition to wood and other solid materials. As I am currently living in a rented apartment for an out-of-state job, my secondary challenge is to build a sound dampening enclosure that will function as a torsion box base, a sound dampening enclosure, and a dust containment system. This project has been a steep learning curve in an unfamiliar area for me. It has been a very rewarding experience and has opened up so many more possibilities to pursue in the future.

This project is for building a remote hand pendant for the Planet-CNC control board but could be adapted for many other projects. The pendant allows for machine control without being at the computer keyboard and the button functions on the pendant are defined by the user.
