The COTSPnP pick-and-place machine (PnP) is used to place surface-mount devices (SMDs) onto a printed circuit board and was designed and built exclusively from off-the-shelf (COTS) components, predominantly sourced from OpenBuilds and Actobotics. Its intended use is prototyping and not high rate, high volume production and is capable of precisely placing parts as small as 0402 capacitors and resistors but more importantly, can precisely place components with lead spacing as small a 0.4mm.

Leveling Platform / Stand 3D Printers

feel kind of bad calling this a build because of pretty much everything is off the shelf parts. I'm writing my own sketch right now for the motion but there is a version or 2 floating around on the net based of this design. I will post my code once it's done.

Using a Raspberry Pi, Arduino and a Protoneer CNC Shield to create an Open Source CNC router controller. It will be equipped with a touch screen to control the on board processor. The touch screen will run a user interface that has buttons for added functionality. There will be a camera for monitoring progress from inside my office. The control box will also feature a way to power the vacuum and spindle/router . I will also be able to monitor room temp as well as Pi CPU temps and averages.

This is a build still in the prototype stage. I have built four of these frames. The first pictured I have been using for maybe a year or two and bought the clamps. The last three I have made I have built my own clamps with openbuild parts. I am still working on the design. At present I use wedges to apply pressure to the side of the wood and block. I am working on a cam system to apply pressure. I just bought 8mm screws with Knobs for quicker adjustment. I will update the build when I make these improvements.

I know this build is a little off category here at OB, but I wanted to share it with the community (as well as other coffee lovers) and show however vast the possibilities are when OB hardware is involved. This is a powered stand intended to operate a manual coffee grinder. It is compact, light, portable and uses simple drive components (B&D Cordless Screwdriver). I will post two version, V-1 (Beginner skill level ) and V-2 (Intermediate skill level). Both accomplish the same results.

I’m custom building a push table / cart for my cnc machines mostly out things I already had in my garage. Using a gray push utility cart as the main body and building around that.

Attached to a scroll saw you can cut nested wooden spirals with this jig. Make two, three, four ... interlocking spirals that unwind/unscrew. Fascinating toys or art objects!

The toilet cistern is located in the garage and was originally manually activated by a pushbutton connected via a cable. The location of the pushbutton - combined with the stiffness of the mechanism made it tricky for her to use. This project provides a solution to the problem.
