I made a 5x10 foot cnc out of the parts I bought on this site. It's been upgraded and tinkered with ever since. The end goal is to learn enough to learn to build a large 10x10 foot 3d printer.

The plasma CNC that I have built has a water table that measures 1350mm x 650mm. The water is flooded onto the cut area while cutting and recycled around with a pump. This is to reduce smoke, cool the metal being cut to reduce distortion and also to keep sparks to a minimum. Most of the machine has been made from aluminium , the frame and table from steel, the water table, stainless steel.

Two plus years in the making, I finally have a working ACRO 510 laser engraver system complete with enclosure and air filtration.

The main objective is to build a software which can completely run on a single board computer, Rasbperry Pi, to reduce the complete cost of building a cnc machine. The software is extensively tested and can be run on any raspberry pi 2/3 boards. With no G-Code dependency, you can do complex 3D relief carving to simple tasks with simple GUI based project development environment. Built a 32"x40" ACRO Kit for my 10watt Endurance Laser. Put it in a stand alone clamshell cabinet, added a 340cfm 6" fan and variable speed switch for the fan. Using LIght Burn for my primary software. It seems to be work well.

Getting an accurate scan of a golf ball can be difficult with general-purpose 3D scanners. This purpose-built golf ball scanner uses a very accurate Keyence LK-081 laser displacement sensor with an Open Builds linear actuator for the vertical axis and a Sherline CNC rotary table for the turntable. Scan detail is determined by the sample step size and can be set arbitrarily based on desired scan time.

I have looked at other build submissions to help me figure out where I would like to start. The workable volume should 36" W x 6" D x 6" T. An open source autosampler to be used in laboratories for the automated analysis of gas or liquid samples.

This is my second CNC build, but the first one that I design from the ground up. The base is all metal because I want to add Plasma facility later on. I used the Ox model for the gantry plates and made a few changes to adapt to my design. Since I wanted to use parts from my first CNC to save as much as possible, I kept the 5/8 Hi-Lead Screw I had from Roton for the Y and Z axis. I will also add a downdraft table to keep all parts tight on the table for cutting.

This build is my version of the CBeam machine. I opted to NOT use the Gussets, and instead went for the 40, and 60 mil angle brackets to cut the price back a little further. I started with the smoothieboard but decided it was still "too new" and very much experimental. This build took me a few (2-3) days to complete. The CBeams and Lead-Screws really make building things faster since you don't have to clamor over belts.

I will write a short buildlog here with mostly pictures. I designed this lasercutter in solidworks(not totally finished) for a good overview and such that the steel tubes could be lasercut by a company, the metal frame is based on the lasercutter the KÄSER, which you can find on cnczone.nl. The mechical parts are designed by myself because I had no mill to my use, so the mechnical parts are lasercut(same company as tube) steelplates welded together.

Lord willing I will be showing you how build a robust and easy to build 3D printer framework using V-Slot rails and rollers. It's a little bulky, but it has all spring tensioned rollers on all axes, and can be built entirely without custom machining on any parts. You will need digital calipers, a drill press, a carbide toothed miter saw for cutting aluminum extrusions, and lots of little screws!

As a tinkerer and hobbyist I need a reliable quality printer on a budget... Meaning I'm not looking to buy a: Prusa, Zortrax or LulzBot because of the added cost their marketing adds. I can definitely build a machine of hopefully equal quality at a lower cost that is not impacted by the marked-up priced from a large reputable manufacturer. Routy based build using 1000mm Y axis beams and 500mm X axis beams. Using a 20x80 Z axis to use the OpenBuilds router mount.

Laser CNC, 60W, didn't have one yet... have to :) This build is a retrofit of a surgical laser into a CNC.

Hypothesis - Running CO2 laser tubes at high amperage may shoirten tube life in number of hours, but will be made up for by the increase in actual inches engraved/cut using the higher power. This is a long term experiment, so the build status will remain as "Build in progress" until the experiment has been completed.
