I ordered the OpenBuilds MiniMill from the OpenBuilds Parts Store http://openbuildspartstore.com/ They were out of Motors and Electronics when I ordered so I had to source these items elsewhere. But it turned out well doing it this way.

The reason for building this CNC is to help me in my guitar building hobby. (telecasters)

A table top version of the open build xl router kit set build. This use of c - beam and xl kit set was coupled with Mach 3 controller running on Dell opti -plex 755 and win 7 pro licence. This design should give the same performance as the high speed Ultimaker since it uses a similar ultra-light X/Y concept which eliminates any movement of both the X and Y motors to achieve X/Y travel.

A blend of modular aluminum and steel bracketry built to yield fine cuts in hardwood and aluminum. An open table with a shiftable pin-fixture concept will allow the operator to shift longer than Y-travel work-pieces, such as doors, along the Y-axis of the table. This machine has a 44" (X) by 24" (Y) by 8" (Z) travel with water cooled VFD spindle motor, t-slot ext work table, cable carriers, side guards n dual y drives. Total weight (w/base-stand) is about 600lbs.

A brief write up of the making of the FLSUN Delta Kit. This kit is based on an open source design. I had a need for a 3D printer without the desire to dive into another project, so a kit was the obvious way to go. I have been working on this project for something like 3 years on and off, sometimes leaving it for a few months. Now I really want to finish it. For me, the mechanical part was the easy (though long) part because I get to use about 17 CNC machines and MasterCAM and I am a machinist. The hard part is the electronics part. Had a few problems getting Windows to communicate to the X5 Mini via the USB cable but found something on the Smoothie forum and got the machine moving.

A very fun and fulfilling build. I can't say enough about the whole Open Builds site and Open Source movement. I strongly believe this is the fastest and most creative way of getting ideas out of the mind, and onto the floor.

First build of CNC OX for the purpose of using it for Guitar building to take a lot of the muscle work out so I can concentrate on the finer details.

This is a cartesian CNC Router build that is based off the OX CNC build by Mark Carew. I am using Spark Concepts CNC xPro controller board and their 400w spindle kit.

OpenRail attached to a 19" rackmount 15U box.

This is a book scanner built out of aluminum extrusion. It is designed to get high quality scans without harming the book. It is not automated. You still have to turn the pages yourself.

I have constructed frame out of 1 1/2" square tubing. Have my Y aces mounted. and awaiting parts.

This build is to show what's possible as well with openBuilds! I use a single ArduinoMega and 5 separate stepper drivers (A4988). The LEDs are all NeoPixels. Collision 'detection' is all done within the code, so the endstops are only sensors I use in this build. I'm a self-employed video-artist and this is my first installation which just needs power and it runs (where I'm quite proud of). Normally my interactive installations take a long setup time, so this installation is a relief :)

The Ronin OX is a dedicated fiber composite milling machine. I give a complete in-depth article on how to take a nearly stock OX build and easily turn it into something that can mill carbon fiber and G10 plate effectively and quickly.

One meter square. Short and stout.... reminds me of a Sumo Wrestler. A temporary and adjustable configuration I have devised to cut my own plates. I have kicked around ideas for about a year and the C-Beam extrusion has made this attempt to realize my ideas irresistible. This is just one step towards bigger and better things!

This build is very straight forward. The design is simple. There is a great support community for Delta 3D printers.

ANOTHER OX!~ Huge Thanks to Marc Carew and Open Builds. The primary reason I am building this CNC mill is to aid in my homemade snowboard creation. I am going to try and document as much of everything as I can and post it here to help others going a similar route. I know from past projects that taking the time to document each step can be tedious when you want to charge ahead but I will try! I hoping to get feedback on my design choices and set up as I am a complete newbie to CNC.

The frame is made from all open builds parts, add the rubber feet and pads for the glass. The glass is clear 12" x 16" x 1/4" with a polished edge. A light basket slides on the countertop.

The COTSPnP pick-and-place machine (PnP) is used to place surface-mount devices (SMDs) onto a printed circuit board and was designed and built exclusively from off-the-shelf (COTS) components, predominantly sourced from OpenBuilds and Actobotics. Its intended use is prototyping and not high rate, high volume production and is capable of precisely placing parts as small as 0402 capacitors and resistors but more importantly, can precisely place components with lead spacing as small a 0.4mm.
